Kuk Sool Won of Greater Rochester is proud to announce that we have raised $6800 at today’s Cancer Benefit Martial Arts Tournament!
The tournament was held in conjunction with the Wayne County Children’s Cancer Fund, a not-for-profit organization developed to provide children and their families residing in Wayne County, New York with financial assistance in their diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other chronic disease. Kuk Sool Won school owner Master Gary Evarts worked with the organization to select young Lauren Miller as the beneficiary of the event. Lauren Miller, a 12-year-old girl from Palmyra, is currently undergoing treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. One hundred percent of the proceeds earned at this tournament went directly to Lauren and her family to help alleviate mounting medical bills.
“Students are taught from an early age the importance of doing good,” said Evarts. “It is the martial artist’s responsiblity to help those in the community and to become a valuable member of society.” At the tournament, Kuk Sool Won martial artists of all ages and ranks competed in various events in front of a massive audience. Students practiced hard in the weeks leading up to the tournament, working on their sparring, self-defense and agility.
Kuk Sool wants to thank all the competitors, their families and friends for their generous support!
